Local hot-footers get going.
Lambda Runners, a newlyformed gay running group, met for the first time on Sunday, May. 17 in east suburbs of Cleveland. After a brief warm-up, the group moved out at 6:30 p.m. and spent a quiet 45 minutes running along a bike trail smooth and fairly
level that ambles through a scenic and secluded park in Cleveland Heights. Commented one local runner: "I didn't even know that this trail was here." Lambda Runners is being spearheaded by Fred Brule and Mike Crowley as yet another
social alternative for gay men and women.
Those involved in the initial run were pleased, with comments ranging from"Super to run with gay people -there is really nothing like family!" to "Why did we ever wait so long to start

clergy, political activists, all representing the people of this area. It was a real show of peoples unity.

Fred and Mike are putting a lot of time and energy into the organization of Lambda Runners and hope that this Clevelandbased group can become the success that San Francisco's Front Runners has become. Front Runners is growing bigger and more active and several runs are scheduled for this summer. Gay men and women are involved in physical fitness and health as never before--not only is it the "body beautiful" syndrome, but improving the quality of life that makes all of this so important to us.
As we go to press, a tougher course was tackled on Sunday,
May 24 when the group met at infamous Edgewater Park. This trail, comprised of both rough terrain and bicycle paths, gave people an opportunity to challenge themselves or to run a course more suited to an individual's strengths and weaknesses.
Dates for future runs are: EastSunday, July 5; West Sunday, June 28 and July 12. Times: 6:00 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. Novice runners are most important and the seasoned runner as a source of encouragement is welcome.
